Cyber Bullying and facebook issues

Many bad things can happen whist socialising on the internet, whether it be myspace, facebook, MSN, even something kinda childish like club penguin or whatever social network - it doesnt matter, bad stuff is out there. Even the small issues can  turn into something big. There are on the otherhand, ways to avoid social embarrasment and in serious cases, sexual harrassment. Many businesses even find out your details via facebook as few people seem to use it as a diary to broadcast to the world...

So what are your thoughts on the issue?

  1. People need to be careful about what they post on Facebook - some of the people i know post the most idiotic things.

    2. Dunno if you remember her but it was Emily Griffin, she was getting crap from another person in our class over facebook and she seemed real upset at school so i helped her out and talked the bully out of it with just 5 comments. Felt kinda awesome

    1. a very good way of staying safe i believe. I also keep my name and many photos private to the ones who really know me.

  4. I know that it isn't as easy as this, but if you don't want that certain person sendning you harsh messages or making rude comments, block them. if you've blocked someone there's no way that they can access you, you're essentially deleted off of their facebook. And this is the same for many other social network sites, they usually all have privacy settings, and a block button.

People are stupid, they say stupid things to get people's attention, not caring what impact it has on them personally. there's no way of changing that.

I don't disagree with employers being able to go onto facebook and looking you up, it's a good way to find out who you really are. but theres' no way that they should be holding onto that information and keeping it for a further date.

    1. Just remember this... anything said in the [electronic] public sphere stays in the public sphere - permanently! Especially on sites like these! Wondering how Blogger makes money? By analysing what people are talking about. Hello Blogger. Yes I'm talking about you. Now go away.

  6. There has recently been a new feature added to Facebook called 'Facebook Timeline'. This feature puts EVERYTHING you've ever done on Facebook on one page - making it easy for everyone to access your info - which goes right back to when you were born! (you can post pictures of when you were born - disturbing, right?). As far as I've heard, you cannot delete anything you haven't recently posted either...

So what are your thoughts on this new-ish feature? and have you started using it for your Facebook account?

    3. Basic rule - if you don't want it made public, keep it of Facebook and the Interwebs. Simple, easy, effective.

  7. It seems everyone has similar thoughts on this topic. Things like - to be very careful about what you're posting, block and/or report anyone who is giving you trouble on facebook/other social network and that it is not wrong for an employer to be looking up the employee's facebook as long as that information is not held on to for future use. Personally, my thoughts on this topic haven't changed. Everyone had valid comments that I mostly either can associate with or agree with. Thanks Everyone, that is all.
